Introduction

Hello to all of you Virtual Classmates and Professor Polakit.

First the basics:
I am Sarah Roop, a graduate student in Landscape Architecture at the University of Idaho in Moscow.  My email is roop7060@vandals.uidaho.edu.  A little picture introduction follows:

I am a non-traditional student, returning for my masters after much work, travel and fun--which eventually led me back to pursue a Landscape Architecture degree.

I got married in Juneau, Alaska, 21/2 years ago.  My husband and I lived on a houseboat in Aurora Harbor with our puppy Cleo, who is a healthy, happy and hopelessly immature mutt.  Some winters were spent down at the South Pole working in the carpentry shop, watching the sun circle overhead morning and night.  We gave up that excitement for the new excitement of a little family and baby boy Lincoln will turn 1 year in October.

I got my undergrad degree in International Studies, with a focus on politics and Asia.  I did not however go into anything related to the major, and instead found myself fighting fire, building trails, and working on wilderness crews for the Forest Service for the next decade plus.  I love the outdoors and hope to eventually end up working with the Forest Service or Park Service utilizing my experience in landscape architecture in one way or another.

While Urban Design is not my passion, the issues it presents--that of humans interacting with their environment--is relevant for having a complete understanding of design in general.  I'm excited for this style of class and virtually meeting all of you.
